Network Configuration: 29/03/2012
The Gaia network is undergoing it’s final phase of development this evening.
A private address network is be configured between all servers on the Gaia network. This provides additional security and ensures the network is PCI-DSS compliant.
After the work is complete the entire network will be in lock down. Some servers will no longer be accessible from outside of the network, such as database servers and code repositories.
External SSH access will be revoked from all servers and a proxy server is being configured with tight security auditing and intrusion detection. All access to the servers must pass through this proxy to gain access.
The work will be completed through the night, and intermittent down time can be expected as servers restart their networking and tests are carried out.
DNS Updates
All customers who have registered their domain with us are being moved to a new DNS Infrastructure. Domains are being transfered and tested one by one. No down time is expected.
Work will be completed by 10pm 22/11/2011.
Production Server Upgrade
An update is being performed this evening (6/10/11) on the production webserver.
Monitoring software used to record historical data about the server is not functioning correctly. I’m currently unable to view usage information about Apache, the web server’s software.
This is not a critical issue, and this sort of monitoring is only used to identify usage patterns over long-periods of time. Up to the minute crisis alert software is still operating as expected.
Caching Server Updates
Some adjustments and improvements are being made to how data is cached on the web servers. The changes are designed to help the servers handle higher loads and run faster under normal-usage.
Service to the staging server may be affected, but there are currently no plans to deploy the changes in to a production environment.
Another update will be posted when the changes are scheduled to go in to production.
New Website & Voicemail Routing
New Website
I have just re-launched the Amarus website. It now contains basic info about the work I do, contact details and my client list. I had hoped to launch the site with technical guides, as requested by several customers, but I felt even without this feature the site is an improvement on the old one!
Voicemail Routing
A problem with voicemail routing that meant I was not receiving messages by email has been corrected; if you use the 0121 279 0060 number and leave a message I can now return your call!
Homepage Unavailable
The Amarus homepage is unavailable whilst a new, improved site is being launched!
Business As Usual
This feed is now live, providing updates as necessary
